Learn to Make Applebutter in Maeystown

September 24 & 25, 2010

Instruction in the art of making apple butter will be provided at the restored 1859 rock mill in Maeystown on September 24th and 25th (Friday and Saturday).  Members of the Maeystown Preservation Society will demonstrate various apple peeling and stirring methods in preparation for the 30th annual Oktoberfest on Sunday, October 10th.  Apple peeling will take place at the mill between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday the 24th.  Apple stirring will begin at 6 a.m. and go until 3 p.m. on Saturday the 25th.  Friends of Maeystown willing to help peel apples or donate two hours of stirring time are asked to contact David Braswell at 618-458-6660.


Maeystown is located 8 miles southwest of Waterloo, Illinois.  From Illinois Highway 3 in Waterloo, turn west on Illinois Route 156 approximately 300 feet, then turn left on Lakeview Drive/Maeystown Road.  Go 8 miles to the Maeystown turnoff.
